Template information
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is one of the most famous fighter aircraft of the German Luftwaffe used in World War II. Over 33,000 units were produced in many different versions. The strengths of this aircraft were its climb and dive speed. In the summer of 1942, the production of the Bf 109 G series began, which underwent noticeable changes compared to the previous version of the Bf109F. The G-5/G-6 was equipped with a MK 151/20 mm cannon with a muzzle directly in the center of the propeller. Two MG 131 machine guns were placed above the engine.
Due to the cartridge belts of the improved armament, the engine hood had to be aerodynamically modified, thanks to which the aircraft acquired its characteristic "bulge". The G-6 type was widely used on all fronts from March 1943 until the end of the war. In the later production series of the Bf 109 G-6, fixed one-piece windows were added to the rear of the cabin, which greatly improved rearward visibility. In the course of further modifications, the tail rudder was also transformed, which was higher and had a larger area than in previous versions. With 13,000 machines, the G-6 version was the most produced Bf 109 type.
