Template information
Mil Mi-8 (in the NATO code "Hip") is a multi-purpose twin-engine helicopter developed in the USSR with a classic arrangement with a five-bladed support and three-bladed leveling rotor. It is one of the most widely used helicopters in the world.
The first prototype V-8 experimental machine still powered by a single AI-24V engine and a four-bladed rotor (Hip-A) took off on June 9, 1961, the prototype of the final two-engine version (Hip-B) then on September 17, 1962. The helicopter was equipped in 1964 with a larger rotor head and series production was started at the end of 1965. The machine is still produced today and has served or is serving in approximately 50 countries around the world (including the Czech Republic). The machine found use for both military and civilian purposes.
