The Hawker Hurricane was a British single-seat fighter aircraft in service with the RAF and other Allied air forces during the Second World War. Hurricanes, along with Spitfires, formed the basis of the British fighter air force during the Battle of Britain. The aircraft was created in the mid-1930s, it was the first modern fighter monoplane of the British Royal Air Force.
However, it was gradually displaced by the more modern and powerful Spitfire, even though it was more demanding to manufacture - and also more expensive. Later, the Hurricane was used as a fighter-bomber, armed with a 40mm cannon in North Africa, it destroyed tanks of the German Afrikakorps, or as a naval Hawker Sea Hurricane, it operated from the decks of British aircraft carriers.
