RMS Titanic was the Olympic class ocean liner owned by the White Star Line. In its time it was the largest passenger steamship world. It was designed for the transportation of passengers and mail between Europe and North America. On this route had to compete with similar liners Cunard Line - Mauretania and Lusitania. Capacity of the boat allowed to carry 2453 až 2,603 passengers and a limited number of carriages or cars. The operation of the ship and passenger comfort cared 885-899 crew members.
Titanic foundered, however, during his first voyage. 14th April 1912 at 23:40 with the steamer collided with an iceberg. After almost three hours of the morning on the 15th April at 02:20, sank to the bottom. Killing around 1,500 passengers and crew. The reason for the high number of victims was notably the lack of lifeboats and the poor organization of rescue work.
The sinking of Titanic was widely publicized for a large number of victims, among whom were many rich and famous people because of the legends that arose about the causes and course of the sinking, and last but not least, after the discovery of well-preserved wreck in the depths of the Atlantic.
